Prosper & Martine Assouline (founders) have essentially created a restaurant AND a book boutique in a European type cottage here in Los Angeles! Mark your calendar, Monday, December 14, 2009 there is an open house from 11am-8pm.
New York, NY (December 2009) — ASSOULINE, the luxury goods brand celebrated for using culture as its medium, is pleased to announce its newest boutique and the first ever location serving food and cocktails (in partnership with Joe Pytka’s Bastide) located on stylish Melrose Place in Los Angeles, California.
Resembling a Parisian townhouse, ASSOULINE brings European flair to the West coast. Designed and decorated in the traditional ASSOULINE aesthetic, each detail of the space retains the iconic spirit of the brand. The Main Library, painted with the publisher’s elegant iconic red, adorned with floor to ceiling custom-made Mondrian bookshelves and illuminated with a Ingo Maurer chandelier and cozy fireplace, celebrates the sophisticated style of the luxury brand.
The Vintage Book Room, located off the Main Library, is filled with luxury gift items and rare vintage finds, personally curated by Prosper Assouline. Exclusive pieces include gilt-edged leather notebooks made of fine Italian paper, cutting-edge special editions, the limited edition Oscar Niemeyer Bookstand ($8,500), and a one-of-a-kind special edition Goyard trunk ($20,000).
Unique to any other ASSOULINE boutique, year-round gourmet dining will be available from 8am-10pm on the terrace or in one of the several culture infused rooms including the trompe l’oeil Garden Room that is flooded with natural light and adorned with the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel’s Palm Wallpaper and a wall of live greenery giving the illusion of being outdoors. The Kitchen Room which functions as a private dining space is outfitted with one-of-a-kind furniture designed by celebrated Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi and is complete with a wine bibliotec featuring the most sought after vintages. For alfresco dining and culture absorbing, a cozy terrace is speckled with mature olive trees (a nod to Prosper Assouline’s mother country, Morocco) and an intimate bar perfect for a lovely lunch or a casual cocktail.
“The new Bastide, connected to the magic of Assouline, is designed to take the pain out of eating well. Bastide’s charisma blends with that of Assouline’s books and the comfort of the provocative environment.” remarks Joe Pytka, owner of Bastide.
Prosper Assouline says the union is very natural, upon meeting Joe Pytka “We instantly had a common bond, an appreciation for good food and great culture. I couldn’t be more excited to be in partnership with Bastide, a perfect home for Assouline in Los Angeles.”
The boutique additionally provides a variety of special services, including 24-hour delivery, book personalization, a library design studio, where ASSOULINE professionals will curate a personalized home library in the authentic immediately identifiable aesthetic, referred to by Prosper Assouline as “the next step in modern luxury beyond a home theatre.”
Filled to the brim with vintage titles, gift items and ASSOULINE tomes, ASSOULINE is truly a trove of treasures.
