Beauty CULTure Opens at Annenberg Space for Photography | The Daily Truffle LA

Opening Night Gala for Beauty CULTure Exhibit at Annenberg Space for Photography

If you follow The Daily Truffle, you know we love Wallis Annenberg’s commitment to provide free public services in Los Angeles. The Annenberg Space for Photography is a MUST-SEE for all Angelenos; located directly below the CAA offices in Century City – this is a completely free experience and has very convenient parking. Their latest exhibit is entitled “Beauty CULTure” and explores beauty ideas that have been popular in the last century. Some say beauty is in the eye of the beholder while others have scientifically show it is not. A British study has show the symmetry a face determines the degree of attraction and the Discovery Channel has a video proving the point. The Journal of Young Investigators say even children prefer symmetrical faces … so perhaps there is some degree of both.

We went to the opening of the exhibit the other night which featured a winding red carpet through the trees off Olympic Blvd leading into the outdoor arcade behind the Annenberg Space for Photography. We were pleasantly surprised to see upon arrival Giselle Bunchen who may well be the biggest thing in beauty in the last 10 years – not to mention it is rare to see her in Los Angeles. She was with photographer Nino Munoz and took a moment to pose in front of one of her photos. (Since everyone keeps asking – Giselle looked great, and is a little thinner and even taller than she looks).

We were surprised though can’t say too shocked to see Dita Von Teese take the stage with her little clam shell dance where she is suppose to be like a mother-of-pearl. At one point Jamie Lee Curtis grabbed a tray of hors d’ourves from a waiter and started serving guests. It was funny and kind of reminded me of vacumming for our maintenance man when I spilled the contents of our shredder right in front of him last week, Go Jamie! I feel ya!

Extra points for serving the rare ‘pig in blankets’ not often seen in L.A. and other yummy food and for the elegant portable restrooms! Highlights of the show include a beauty pageant toddler, Claudia Schiffer as a Barbie doll, society dame Jocelyn Wildenstein and close-ups of plastic surgeries in progress.
