VPL: Another packed house for Vicki Bartlett’s F/W runway show that has become a family outing of sorts with several editors and guests holding offspring on their laps, all equally cooing the strut they beheld. Chunky cable knits paired with metallic jerseys, unconventional ‘suiting’ and of course the much anticipated Finale to any VPL veteran: body wrap ‘sweaters’ over body wear…..encore collaboration between Bartlett, Aran Balk, Wade Jensen, Shoplifter & Edda. A winner for all!
Chris Benz: Dress Up is a favorite past time of any girl worth her style, so how lucky we
are for the talents of maestro Chris Benz who showed once again in the Atrium
at Avery Fisher Hall. A glittery backdrop complimented the models layered in sequins,
(can’t have a Benz show without LOTS of shine!), embossed wools that stiffened the fabric, lending a formality to simple yet elegant shapes. Each collection addresses the Lady in every Girl AND the Girl in every Lady; good to know we don’t have to compromise!
Calla: After honing her textile and print design skills at Nina Ricci and Rochas under Olivier
Theyskens, Calla Haynes embarked on her own ready to wear collection focusing on original prints and easy shapes. Inspired by interiors ranging from a Parisian pied a terre, (where Calla has resided for the last nine years), to a modernist manor; this season’s composed of belted woolly coats, straight line sheaths and flirty frocks, most all in either a speckled granite design resembling marble or an exaggerated tiger print. Calla has also had a hand with sportswear , working on a denim capsule with April 77. Welcome to the States!
