The Kills played the Boom Boom room last night, that is the penthouse bar on top of the Standard Hotel for those who live under a rock, at the first offical day of New York Fashion Week for upcoming the fall and winter lines. The Truffle spotted party host Aaron Stern (“A Medium Format” on Instagram), Alexander Skaarsgard (our fave vampire king), Alexa Chung, Derek Blasberg, Phillip Lim, Erin Wasson, DJ frankie Inglese, Poppy Delevigne, and Ms. Lohan (making the NYFW rounds again).
Meanwhile across town, the CFDA celebrated its 50th anniversary with an opening night for an exhibition of Impact: 50 Years of the Council of Fashion Designers of America at FIT, Annabelle Dexter Jones Faith Connexion premiere collection dinner at Le Baron, and Wu Tang Clan performed at Milk Studios inserting into their act — and we quote — “F*ck the 1%” … anyone else think it’s err.. interesting to see them perform at a fashion week party AND without The Rza?
Today’s shows highlights: Erickson Beamon jewelry presentation, Nicholas Kirkwood Spring 2012 presentation at Saks (see full slideshow on our Facebook page), Jenni Kayne, Kimberly Ovitz, Libertine, Gigi Burris (where we spied a Kanon Vodka open bar!!), Candela presentation at Lincoln Center, and new Truffle obsession Chadwick Bell (note: even their shoes r sickkk).
Warrior was a consistent theme at Kimberly Ovitz wether personified in signature jersey draped gowns or a velvet menswear suit. Ivanka Trump was so moved, she shot to her feet in congratulations. The Ovitz woman wears her strength on her sleeve … and legs, and torso … Oiled faux fur, ‘hair’ fringe, waxed leather and embroidered knits were the foundation of Kimberly’s F/W runway show at Pace. Score for another Cali gal!
And speaking of L.A. locals … our Jenni Kayne presented her latest collection in fave NY venue — The Chatwal. A modern mix leather and tweed separates, floor length floral bias skirt, matching silk button up …… and her velvet slippers in all new colors gals!!
Always a fun show that somehow transports you to the inspired theme is Candela. Guests were greeted with tin mugs of champers and a set evoking the country setting of yore. Floaty floral dresses, ruffled skirts and chunky knits will keep the farm girl comfy, stylish and pretty….
Erickson Beamon debuted a collection of ‘prohibition boudoir’ inspired jewelry at Milk Studios later that night — jeweled shirt collars and torso pieces were the ultimate. Designers Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon couldn’t have staged a better performance with the latest New York hit — The Citizens Band there to performs — this troup is a vaudville / trapeze act made up of well-known singers, actors and trapeze artist including Zoe Kravitz, whose BF Penn Badgley accompanied her, Sarah Sophie Flicker whose director husband Jesse Peretz (Our Idiot Brother) was also in attendance, British model and singer-songwriter Karen Elson, and more.
