New York Fashion Week kicks off again this week, and for the third season in a row Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld has curated an opening as an unofficial launch of NYFW. Keeping true to form the featured work was large in format and ‘punk rock’ in attitude. Not surprisingly, Ivorian painter Ouattara Watts was greatly influenced by his mentor Jean-Michel Basquiat whom he met whilst studying in Paris.
Revelers at Tuesday’s opening included proud mom and sis, Carine and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, girlfriend Giovanna Battaglia, DVF and son Alex von Furstenberg, Derek Blasberg, best friends, Stavros Niarchos (with girlfriend Jessica Hart) and Pc Valmorbida, W’s Stefano Tonchi, Eugenie Niarchos, Pop Magazine’s Shala Monroque, Chanel girls Caroline Sieber and Elisa Sednaoui, Claire Courtin-Clarins, Waris Ahluwalia, Virginie Courtin-Clarins, Harry Bernstein aka Harry B, Candice Bergen’s daughter, Chloe Malle, Salman Rushdie (always love seeing an intellectual supporting the arts!), Matthew Mellon, Nadine Johnson, Genevieve Jones, Yigal Azrouel, Jen Brill, MAC’s John Dempsey, Julio Santo Domingo, Ann Dexter Jones, Eddie Borgo and many lovely, leggy ladies including one of our fav models, Lily Donaldson.
Opening of retailer Sandro w/ after party at Le Baron
At the other end of the West Village on Tuesday night, Dree Hemingway hosted the opening of the first Sandro post in the States. If you’re a shopper and have traveled, you will be familiar with the brand of easy, fun Parisian girl-on-a-budget. Highlight of my night? Spotting the luminous Rose Byrne … major Girl Crush …. haha!
Party hosts: Dree Hemingway, Rose Byrne, Derek Blasberg, Harley Viera Newton (LA native), and Mickey Boardman
Food: petit crepes, adorable macarons, merguez sausages, and spécial Sandro limonade
After Party: New York now has their own Le Baron (two years after announced opening date) — borrowed from Toyko off shoot and Parisian original. Owner Andre Saraiva and girlfriend Annabelle Dexter-Jones were present for the first major Fashion Week party at the very newly opened club. Also spotted: Style.Com’s Nicole Phelps and Meenal Mistry, Mickey Boardman, Zoe Kravitz with Penn Badgley, Dree Hemingway, Brad Goreski, Gilles Bensimon, and more.
#TruffleNotes: Our fav drink in all of Paris is the “Le Baron” which is made of Strawberries, Champagne, and Vodka.

Presentations are officially the new black at fashion week and some have even stepped it DOWN a notch further opting for absolutely no presentation or show — and simply inviting the gang for dinner — that’s what Jodie & Danielle Synder of DANNIJO did for to show editors, stylists their new jewels.
Corey Lynn Calter showed for the for the first time in NY….. We were delighted with a tableau of pretty, colorful separates, and covetable dresses. Stand outs include a purple lace ‘suit’ and a bird flecked shift that echoes the actual tattoos that CLC herself sports!
Rachel Comey‘s runway show (with front row fan Parker Posey) was a well edited seamless flow of textured tailored bits with surprising side view details and unexpected use of plastic. There were beautiful funnel necked knits cinched with skinny plastic belts paired with paneled leather skirts, much of the palette sticking to a black/white theme.
Renowned for his artistic bend with hair, New York native Bob Recine opened his show and launched his book, ‘Alchemy of Beauty’ at The Hole to a crowd of top stylists, like Lori Goldstein, supermodels, Freja Beja Erichsen, and Karolina, fellow photographers Mark Borthwick, and of course fashion characters of all alike. An amazing installation that included a ‘hair skull’ safety pin headpiece and a gravity defying hair pin mannequin! Images of these pieces and past collaboration, Gaga et al, are beautifully archived in the book.
Drawing inspiration from Ponyboy, Versailles Gilt, and Angela Chase, VEDA designer Lyndsey Butler delivered what the brand is known for: Tough yet chic leather staples and plenty of rock n’ roll sexiness as well as some softer, easy separates. To personify the season’s theme were Bad Girlfriend, a quartet of lovely, raucous musicians!
