Rod Roddenberry, who is the son of Gene Roddenberry and now has his own media company called Roddenberry.com, hosted a friends and family screening of the new Star Trek last week on the Paramount lot. He did this last time for the first J.J. Abrams film and it was all the same crowd … Lots of agents, producers, and friends from high school (Harvard Westlake) like Chris Hopkins (Rizvi Traverse / Playboy), Jeremy Steckler (Imagine / Conde Nast), Lilla Zuckerman (writer, Fringe), Jules Urbach (Otoy / Lightstage), and Tory Mell and Trevor Roth who also work at Roddenberry.com. Rod recently launched the Trek Initiative with Wikia that is to be the ultimate online “Star Trek” community portal. Cute ‘Paramount’ bags of popcorn were set up for guests on the lot. A group went across the street to Lucy’s afterwards.
The premiere of Star Trek was a couple days afterwards on May 14 at the Chinese theater aka the Dolby with an after party held at AV Nightclub — director J.J. Abrams, Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey, Sumner Redstone (Chairman of Paramount parent Viacom), Tom Cruise (who kinda crashed), and the Trek cast were there.
