The food deserves a whole separate section due to the highly delish crispy brussels sprouts being passed around before dinner (email us for the recipe!), the elaborate resurrected kitchen on the tennis court (that along with the 100 tables over a covered pool, took a week to build), and the Fatburger truck that joined us at the after party. Guests were given both steak and lobster, salads with edible flowers, and a DIY dessert with brownies, caramel and ice cream.
The evening began in the driveway of the Brentwood Country Estates (#TruffleNotes: this is where Gisele Bundchen lives!) mansion with a cocktail reception, followed by a sit-down dinner and awards presentation, during which the front drive was re-set to become a cupcake and Fatburger post-reception. The event was sponsored by Audi, CARNEVALE at The Venetian Las Vegas, GREY GOOSE® Vodka, and philanthropic partner Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors Foundation. The night raised $1.4 million through ticket sales and on-site donations. Max Greenfield asked guests at the tables to talk among themselves and determine an amount they could each contribute — each table was given a giant glowstick to crack when they had an amount ready.
Schmidt from the New Girl:
We need a whole separate section to discuss Max Greenfield (aka Schmidt from the New Girl) as well who was the night’s emcee. First off, he now has a beard. Second, he is married. Third, we did not need the douchebag jar for him this eve. Here is a little excerpt of an amazing, unexpected rant he had about the valley:
“The 405 doesn’t end at fucking Skirball! It’s not a cliff people, it doesn’t just end. It’s a community w. schools and stores. None that you’d people want to shop at.”
He spent most of the night in the backstage with Chris Pine, and became the emcee for the evening after being to introduced to Chrysalis by his his agent agent Richard Weitz who is an event co-chair.
Schmidt also correctly observed his Jew jokes were going over better than the funny ones, not uncommon for a Jewish Hollywood crowd, as observed by Mel Brooks at another fundraiser event earlier in the week.
Agent Josh Liberman was given the honor of the night — his clients showing up to support included Colin Farrell, Max Greenfield, David O. Russell, and more. His brother Mark also flew in for the night; his wife Maryam Lieberman and children were also in attendance.
Colin Farrell introduced Josh and talked about their client/agent relationship. He said early on Josh would invite him for Shabbat dinners and Colin was sure it was a typo. Max Greenfield later said when returning to the stage, “I wonder how that goes … Colin found the matzah! Colin found the matzah!”
A video compilation was made to high-light Josh’s own brief career as an actor, start in the mailroom, and rise to power agent at CAA, featured tons of celebs incl Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Harvey Weinstein, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Leto, JJ Abrams (who although was at the event, quipped in the video saying he wouldn’t make it as he would be “on location … in Los Angeles”), Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Spacey, and even the Dos Equis guy (yes, the actual Most Interesting Man in the World was in Josh’s video …) who ended the video with: “I don’t usually hang out w.agents but when I do I hang out w. Josh Lieberman.”
Katherine Pope was introduced by Dakota Johnson (actress and daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith) and also had a pretty funny video that ran before she came up on stage to get her award. Damien Lewis from ‘Homeland’ was featured in the video doing a mock Nick-Brody pre-recorded message hovering over the camera and speaking in rushed hushed tones.
Roberto and Alex:
‘Star Trek’ writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who were also honored, and went up to give a hilar speech. JJ Abrams was there to support and sat at their table.
The Bird And The Bee (who we love), Aloe Blacc who sang his original song ‘I Need a Dollar’ (the theme song to TV show ‘How to Make it In America’), DJ Michelle Pesce
Drinks: Our friends at Grey Goose are onto something here … they have been pressing fruit as mixers — drinks of the evening used lemon and raspberries.
No more mixers …. Grey Goose is teaching us to use pressed fruit instead
