Ramen Pop-Up Restaurant at Breadbar on 3rd Street in WeHo
I've seen the pop-up store, popularized in L.A. by Commes des Garcon in a downtown alley. I've seen a pop up gym at the Muscle Milk fitness retreat earlier this year. I've seen pop-up food trucks, and pop-up sex books - but I have never in all my years seen a pop-up restaurant within another restaurant. This month, Breadbar hands over it's kitchen to uber Japanese ramen makers "Yatai | Ramen Twist." Twist indeed - this menu offers no breaks to the faint at heart ... the twist is rare options [...]
Newsweek reports Iranian mother faces 99 lashes or death by stoning!!
Sakineh Ashtiani, mother of 2, might be stoned this weekend for possibly cheating on her husband.... Yes, you heard right, I did say stoned to death. This poor woman was thrown in jail in 2006, followed by 99 lashes. The Iranian penal code says, "stones are large enough to cause pain, but not so large as to kill the victim immediately." Article 102 of the Penal Code states that men should be buried up to their waists and women up to their breasts for the purpose of execution by stoning. [...]
Dinner on the Bridge! Roosevelt opens The Bridge above the David Hockney Pool for dinners
Dine alfresco this summer at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel above the sparkling David Hockney pool and Tropicana bar **The Roosevelt now lets kids swim in the pool at night. Three years ago, if you fell in the pool on an Alliance night, big fat body guards would rip you out with towels and give you a stern talking-to. Now the boys behind Nightswim (the Thursday night party) have somehow convinced the hotel that their crowd can handle the pool. Kudos to the Roos for easing up on the policy and [...]

Dior Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Couture Show en Paris
Instead of my usual coverage from Couture shows (history, collages, details, front row scoop, etc) I have decided to just post some spectacular pictures from Olivier Zahm's blog, Purple Diary. I will be back to my old tricks come October for THE REAL Paris Fashion Week. I just HAD to do something on this show because A. You know my favorite things ever are ball gowns and dress up, and B. The house, flowers, and some gowns remind me of Alice in Wonderland, which I admit I need help with as [...]
Becca X The Daily Truffle: New logo art from Street Artist Becca Midwood
Becca, internationally renowned as the premier female street artist of her generation, has lent her interpretation of the pre-existing The Daily Truffle logo. The Daily Truffle logo features a girl and her pig on the hunt for that next big truffle (in Los Angeles); an icon which reflects the efforts of the website’s contributors, all of whom have grown up in Los Angeles, to provide lesser-known insight into the illusive ‘L.A. upbringing”. Longstanding subjects of Becca’s art have [...]
In Defense of Hollywood Children: Meet Newest Mailroom Trainee: Sam Grey
There is nothing more we love here at The Daily Truffle when one of our own gets those mailroom jobs all of America goes to ultimate battle to get and keep. Nikki Finke (my idol!) is reporting that Brad Grey's son, Sam Grey, has just started in the mailroom of Management 360, one of the best management companies for talent in Hollywood, and the world. Brad Grey is chief of Paramount. Back in my CAA and Maverick ("Twilight," Full Moon," "Eclispe") days, I dealt intimately with the 360 team and [...]

How we do the 4th in the Malibu Colony
For years, one of our neighbors in the Malibu Colony graciously spent over $60,000 to produce one of the most spectacular fireworks show in Los Angeles! Not only does everyone in the Malibu Colony invite all their friends over to watch the offshore show, preformed on a barge one mile off the coast, so does everyone within a ten mile radius of the Colony! From Topanga to Trancas! Two years ago, our neighbor skipped the holiday and we all were frazzled by the news and had to cancel our [...]

How Christian Louboutin got his groove back
Call me Lauren Bradshaw, as Carrie and I have so much in common we could be sisters, besides the fact that I have never liked Manolo Blahnik ! It is NO secret that I have a major shoe obsession, from the age of 5 on my dad told me I was going to be the American Imelda Marcos. (*Imelda Marcos was the wife of Ferdinand Marcos, President of the Philippines. She owned over 3,000 pairs of shoes.) I would like to think of myself as a shoe collector, rather than a shoe hoarder, as a family [...]
The Daily Truffle’s solution to containing BP oil gushing
Due to today's set back for BP (where an underwater robot knocked the a warm-water carrying tube needed for the LMRP Cap Containment Operation to stay on the well, I have decided to create a fix for BP myself. This fix works and can be used by BP, the US Navy, Coast Guard or civilians with my permission. Step 1: Go buy tarp tubing from Home Depot. *This is the material Elliot runs through when he saves E.T. By enough to get from the ocean surface to the ocean floor. Step 2: Bouy the [...]

Elle Fanning and Chateau Marmont star in Sofia Coppola’s new film, “Somewhere”
This movie screams, "I'm too f%ck*g cool for school". Why you ask? First off it's a Sofia Coppola (honorary LA native) film, which guarantees amazing cinematography and original music/+ soundtrack. (I happen to love her movies, but to those who don't, at least you get the above mentioned) Sophia's boyfriend head ups the one and only, Phoenix, which did the original music along with a brilliant song by Jullian Casablancas, lead singer of the Strokes (curbside listening service available [...]
Theater – “Equus” in East Hampton – Alec Baldwin, Sam Underwood
Typically summer theater consists of light comedies not a heavy psychological mystery about why a 17 year old English boy would senselessly blind 6 horses in a fit of passion. However, this is no ordinary play - it''s the 1970's play "Equus" - a modern classic - and actor Alec Baldwin seeking to constantly challenge himself as an actor immediately said "Equus" when asked what play he most wanted to perform. Playwright Sir Peter Shaffer made minor revisions specifically for this [...]
DT Kids: Crazy Bands banned in L.A. private schools! L.A. native Mary-Kate Olsen (Campbell Hall ’04) even caught sporting this trend!
A few days ago, I was on the way home from having fro yo with the lovely Nola Singer. My mom called me to tell me that I had to see these bracelets that my 2 nieces brought over to my house. My mom said something like, " These are rubber bracelets that have a shape, like a poodle or L for lakers, but when you put it on it disappears." I was expecting something like a slap bracelet ? Something that had a design on it while it was laying flat and then once it was put on the design [...]
East Hampton store party: Calypso, What2WearWhere.com, Riverkeeper
This past Saturday my friend, attorney Misty Allen, told me she had an invite to a fun store party in East Hampton. Calypso St. Barth was co-hosting a shopping event with What2WearWhere.com and the Riverkeeper Jr Council for the East End Generation Green Committee to benefit the Group for the East End, Peconic Baykeeper and Riverkeeper. These three environmental groups seek to protect and preserve the integrity of our natural environment. Riverkeeper in particular has gotten a lot of PR [...]

School’s Out – Grey Gardens event East Hampton
I was excited this Saturday to attend the School's Out benefit by Hetrick-Martin for the Harvey Milk High School at Grey Gardens, the iconic East Hampton estate originally owned by Big and Little Edie Bouvier Beale which was recently made into a movie starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore and a hit musical. Their once beautiful 28 room shake shingle mansion was so run down that the Health Department threatened its closure. However, cousins Jackie Onassis and her sister Lee Radizwell, [...]

Tails of a Hollywood stylist dog rescuer: Rescuing “BELLE” and styling “CARMEN”
As a stylist here in Los Angeles, where I was born and raised (Beverly Vista, Beverly High), I spend a lot of time at fittings, shopping and finding perfect hiding gems for my clients to wear on the red carpets. The second I am done with that, I'm at my computer checking on that Boxer in Baldwin Park shelter, networking chihuahuas or volunteering at rescue events. Here is what's gone on this week: I spent the whole day at a pet adoption at Pan Pacific park on Beverly and Gardner across [...]
